It's nice to meet you! I'm Ms. Patten your new art/digital art/yearbook teacher! I'm from Lake Stevens up north. I've never actually heard of Montesano before I got this teaching position, but I am quite excited to get to know about this cute town and the people who live in it. I went to college at Western Washington University and Woodring College of Education. I lived in Bellingham for many years and I loved it up there, if you are thinking of becoming a Viking, let me know! :) I have a passion for technology and the arts. I've been using photoshop since I was in middle school and I started to get involved in drawing when I entered high school. Once I started I never stopped and now art is my favorite thing to do; that and wasting time researching on the internet. I also am a dork for art history knowledge and backpacked around Europe to see all the beautiful things that I studied. Florence was my favorite, I definitely recommend traveling the world, it is possible to do it! I love animals and I am the proud owner of 2 cats named Pumpkin and Daisy who are super spoiled. I'm the kind of teacher that would love to see a adorable kitten vine, if you find one don't be afraid to show me. Besides that, I love to drink coffee to wake myself up in the mornings and I'm sort of an addict, but who isn't now a days?
I will play music for work time in my classroom. Music is a privilege for good students that don't cause ruckus or migraines. I don't ever play any of the popular radio stuff, sorry! I hope you are open minded to listen to new music you never heard before. The music played during work time will be more on the calming end of the spectrum. It's is pretty unlikely I will ever lay down any funky rap beats, it just isn't my style.
I'm really open to help you with any problem you have, all you have to do is ask! We can work through issues together.
My goal is to create a classroom free of stress and anxiety that most classes dump on students. I believe that art should be a relaxing time where you can set everything aside in your day to just be alone and think as you create. We will have assignments, projects, standards, and due dates, but while you learn art you will also have the time to unwind. For the yearbook kids, we might have a little more stress and we will be very talkative while interviewing students, but our work ethic will be so good we can get everything done with a smile on our faces. I want to have a wonderful year teaching you skills that you will always have with you for the rest of your life. Let's have fun!
