Project 2 will be animal fusion. We will be focusing on surrealism in this assignment by fusing an ANIMAL with an OBJECT (not a human or other animal, it must be a non living inorganic thing) There are specific requirements for this project.
Step 1: The first thing you will do is start by making a list from 1 to 10. Then you will think 10 THEME WORDS for this project. The theme words can be a feeling, mood, adjective. For example: Danger, Loyalty, Wisdom, Wet, Fast, Dream, Dirty, Loud, Comfort, Gooey. Then you will make another column and think of 10 animals that match the theme words you created, for example: Spider, Dog, Owl, Whale, Horse, Cat, Rat, Lion, Panda, Slug. After, make another column, this will be for the objects. Make sure that your objects connect to your theme word, for example: Gun, Flag, Book, Water Bottle, Bed, Garbage Can, Speakers, Tea, Jello Mold. Once you are done with this list, you will check it off with my for 5 points. You will then choose your best combination and draw it. (you should finish this by the 22nd)
Step 2: Now that you have your idea, you will start by creating thumbnails. Thumbnails are small sketches that help you form an idea BEFORE you work on your final draft. This is the planning stage. All artist plan and create thumbnails before they start on their final draft. You will create 6 small sketches of your idea. Each sketch has to BE DIFFERENT (they can't be 6 sketches and all look the same). You will mess with poses, styles, and composition at this time. You can go on your phone and look for animal and object references at this stage. When you are done, you will check it off with me to get your final draft. I will tell you what sketch is your most powerful image. (you should finish this by the 24th)
Step 3: After I checked off your thumbnails, you will get your final piece of paper. (which you can store at school ) You will sketch your fusion and shade your fusion. There must be shading of the form and a light source. There must be details. This is not a contour, so make sure you have your 2B pencils ready and your personal sharpener on hand (never put a 2B pencil in a electrical sharpener) This project is due the 5th of October!
