We are going to learn how to draw a candle today. A candle is a great object because it is simple in design and at the same time, we can learn how to draw our own light source by shading around the flame. You will start by drawing a rounded cylinder below. Make sure there are no sharp points because candles are made of wax and this candle is melting. The next step, is to add long droplets of wax at one side. I will be giving you each your own reference and I want you to try to imitate the sample I have below. Also add a wick, which is a curved cylinder in shape. The third step is to start shading the wax. At the bottom of the candle, it will be the darkest. You will shade lighter and lighter nearing the top. The wax droplets will be shiny since they are more of a liquid at this point. I want you to shade the middle of the droplet the darkest and shade light and lighter nearing the top of your light source. Then, I want you to lightly draw the outline of your fire, which should also look kinda like a rain drop shape. The last step is to shade the background. Shade very dark near the outside of the flame and slowly shade lighter going away from the flame. Make sure it changes, it should not be all one value, it should go from your darkest black to a medium grey. As you near the table, you will get really dark again near your line. Your line will then disappear now that it is shaded out. Check off your candle with me. It should look like the sample. We will work on the candle for the next 2 days.
