Thursday we will start the assignment 'pictures in text'. We will create a clipping mask that will allow you to put images in a text layer. What you will do is think of 6 different things you like and then create a 'picture in text' about them. They have to be school appropriate, if not, I will give you a zero on this assignment. You have to have 6 different images and 6 different fonts. Do not spell the words wrong either, I'll mark you down if you can't spell something. (you can always double check on the internet)
1. Open Photoshop. Create a 900x900 pixel canvas. Name it 'first initial, last name, pictures in text'. This will be your assignment canvas. You will not be making any clipping masks on this canvas. We will be making the text on other canvases and then drag it to the assignment canvas when finished.
2. Figure out your 6 school appropriate words.
3. Find a good image of one of the things you like. Copy it. In photoshop do FILE+NEW+OKAY+EDIT+PASTE. You do not have to set a size for things you copy on the internet. It will set it up for you. Make sure the image you get is bigger rather than smaller. You can always shrink an image, but you can't make an image bigger most of the time because you will lose the quality.
4. Right click the image layer. Select DUPLICATE LAYER. It should make a copy of the picture on it's own layer.
5. Create a new layer. Drag the new layer in between the first picture image and the duplicated image. Use the paint bucket tool and fill that layer with white. You have to use white for it to work. If you are not on white, go to your swatches and select white.
6. Create a new layer. Drag this layer on top of everything. SAVE. Select the text tool. Go to your fonts and choose a really thick bolded text. A cursive font or a thin font won't work for this assignment. I will mark you down if you use one of those. Make sure your color of text is set to white. Write your word on top of everything. CTRL+T stretch the text to cover the entire word.
7.Drag your text under the duplicated layer. Click on the duplicated image layer. Go to the top of Photoshop and click on the LAYER tab. Click+ CREATE CLIPPING MASK. It should then put the image into the word.
8. After you are done. Select each layer by HOLDING SHIFT. Select all 4 layers. Do not select the background layer. Right click and select MERGE LAYERS. All the 4 layers are now 1 layer. Drag this 1 layer over to your assignment canvas. If the layer is too big for your assignment canvas, CTRL+T to resize it smaller so it fits 1/6 of your canvas.
9. Repeat with a new word/picture/font until you get all 6 done and fill in your entire assignment canvas.
10. Turn into the Picture in Text folder.
11. Still confused? Here is a great link about how to do this assignment with pictures, though you still have to follow my rules for this assignment to do it correctly.
